The principle of the diet
Generally speaking, the sirtfood diet involves the consumption of sirtuins – a group of enzymes that includes 7 varieties (from SIRT1 to SIRT7). These are enzyme proteins that strengthen the immune system, prevent cell aging, protect against neurodegenerative diseases, and regulate metabolism and lipolysis (the body’s natural ability to break down fats).
Therefore, for weight loss, it is enough to include in your diet a maximum of foods that contain sirtuins. These include apples, blueberries, parsley, capers, red onions, turmeric, strawberries, mustard, kale, matcha tea, coffee, olive oil, citrus fruits, soy, dark chocolate, and red wine.
Sirtfood diet in practice
It would seem that a diet based on chocolate and wine – what else do you need for happiness? However, in reality, everything is not so simple: for a successful result, you need to really limit yourself in food.
The first lasts three days, each of which you need to consume no more than 1000 calories. The daily menu includes three vegetable juices and one full meal consisting of recommended foods.
In the second stage, which lasts four days, the number of food increases to 1500 kcal per day. So, the menu includes two juices and two full meals.
Disadvantages of the method
Many nutritionists believe that sirtfood is too strict a diet. It is enough to look at the list of “allowed” products to understand that losing weight by this method risks causing feelings of dissatisfaction (despite the fact that those who lose weight can sometimes afford a square of dark chocolate or a glass of red wine).
Therefore, the diet is likely to be ineffective in the long run. In addition, the sirtfood method does not maintain a balance between the intake of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, which means that after the course there may be a “yo-yo effect”. Even if you manage to lose 3 kg in a week, as promised by the authors of the diet, you will gain weight again after returning to your normal diet.
So, nothing prevents you from following the sirtfood method at your own risk. But perhaps it is better to choose a less radical diet, which will get not so fast, but a more stable result.
